New Role, New Colours
Welsh Government funding saw Adventure Travel take delivery of six 11.5m Optare MetroCitys (OM162-7) in August 2020. These were ordered for Service T9 (Cardiff-Cardiff Airport), which is loosely part of the TrawsCymru network, but with the service then suspended indefinitely, they were placed in storage.
In January 2021, four (OM162-5) entered service at Swansea depot on TrawsCymru Service T6 (Swansea-Neath-Crynant-Ystradgynlais-Sennybridge-Brecon), with OM166 following in July 2021. These displaced the four 65-plate MetroCitys, which were transferred to Taffs Well depot for Service 404.
The four are in the process of receiving the new Best Impressions-designed TrawsCymru livery, with OM166 acting as a paint float until she finds a permanent home. Illustrating this, OM165 is captured at speed on the A4067 passing Crai Reservoir, when heading to Swansea in August 2021.
The reversoir was built at the turn of the twentieth century to provide water for the City of Swansea and towns in the Swansea Valley.
