The closure of Cardiff Central Station for major engineering work on 27th and 28th December 2016 saw major rail replacement operations in place.
The Treherbert, Aberdare and Merthyr Lines were replaced by buses between Pontypridd and Cardiff. These were provided by First West of England as a 15 vehicle operation, comprising 13 operational diagrams and two vehicles on stand-by at Cardiff Central. The company produced nine Alexander Dennis E40D MMCs, three Wright StreetDecks and three Wright Eclipse Gemini-bodied Volvo B9TLs.
Representing the E40D MMCs, brand new 33800, sporting a light blue front for Bristol City Services 48, 48A & 49, waits time at Taffs Well Station when heading for Cardiff on the second day of operations.
