Dont Stand By Day

What an hour to be awake. It is of course a coincidence that this is the first dawn... a new dawn, I've noticed in 2016 before 7am. Returned to take photo after the 07.00 news round-up. From his comments on the Middle East, Ban Ki Moon has been listening to people with freedom to be impartial and is able to speak on behalf of people who have the freedom to speak and seek to be constructive. For a UN Secretary General to speak suggests an intention to help deliver change. I find that this is Holocaust Memorial Day... branded this year "Don't Stand By" Day.

Today, a Jewish scholar presents "Thought for the day" and reminds us of Wiesel words as he identifies that neutrality encourages the aggressor. (will listen again to record exact words. But the well-known Weisel quote is below.)

27.01.2016. Wednesday. Showers overnight and a further shower after dawn. Temperature is a pleasant 11.5 degrees just before 9am (car reading).

“We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. Sometimes we must interfere. When human lives are endangered, when human dignity is in jeopardy, national borders and sensitivities become irrelevant. Wherever men and women are persecuted because of their race, religion, or political views, that place must - at that moment - become the center of the universe.” Elie Wiesel. Weisel described by the Nobel Committee as "a messenger to mankind" is a death camp survivor and was born in the Romanian town of Sighet in the magnificent Carpathian region of Maramures, Transylvania. This is one man I would have thought would have much to say to prevent the suffering of families and children across the middle east.
