One of the Original Illinois High Speed Trains

This is the CB&Q's westbound Afternoon Zephyr near Chadwick, IL on a warm August 1964 afternoon. I'm standing on a one lane wooden bridge. The corn is as high as an elephant's eye. The Zephyr is not combined with the North Coast Limited and\or Empire Builder. Four dome cars and the first one looks like Silver Dome. The track is flat, straight or superelevated with jointed rail. It's CTC across Northern Illinois. Those code lines make that work. That E7 is nineteen years old but in great shape. I bet the speedometer has grazed over 100 a few times. Wisssh!
