Grand Canyon Trust CAW Volunteer Trip

by tgiacb717

For beaver to return to the streams of Boulder Mountain in the Dixie National Forest of Utah, much needs to be done. One of those things is to assess the damage to cottonwood, aspen and willows by cattle that the Bureau of Land Management allows to graze in DNF. Oct 2011 at the end of the cattle-grazing season, staff of the Grand Canyon Trust (Emily, Mary, Mindy, Jeremy, Wayne) and volunteers (Susanna, Betty Ann, Dillon, Dave) gathered field data about the condition of the CAW. Aspen were at peak color at many spots, magnifying the beauty of the mountain. Weather started out nice, but steadily declined during the week, culminatig in a rain storm on our low-elevation camp on the last night while snowing about 10-12 inches on the mountain where we had just been the day before.
