Better Than Planned

Today was a day to make some time going east. I was not going to make it a complete travel day, and since 2006 was the last time I had really checked out the Iowa Interstate, I thought a day following train CBBI,(Council Bluffs-Blue Island), would fit perfect for the day. Departing at night from CB it would be early in Des Moise, so, if I get my lazy ass out of bed early enough from a local motel, I could get a few pics in before hitting the road. II did not disappoint. Lucky for me the heritage Rock Island unit would be in the lead. Now as most of you know, I am not one to go out of my way to shoot "big uglies", (modern EMD/GE's), but I always thought the II's paint scheme looked rather sharp on the "uglies". So, I cut them some slack. I really didn't expect the RI unit, so it made it all the better. Although most time when rail fanning, you can't have it all,(the weather still was not cooperating), you have to take what you can get. I must say, this was a nice "get" for the last train of the trip. I chased from Altoona, Iowa to Amana, then highballed for Cleavland!
