Everglades NP (Florida) - Hartwood Hammock & a blue lake @ Shark Valley Trail
Small islands of trees growing on land raised between 1 foot / 0.30 m and 3 feet / 1 m above sloughs and prairies are called tropical hardwood hammocks. They appear in freshwater sloughs, sawgrass prairies, or pineland. Hammocks are slightly elevated on limestone plateaus risen several inches above the surrounding peat, or they may grow on land that has been unharmed by deep peat fires.
