Lower Bond Falls
Bond Falls is located on the middle branch of the Ontonagon River east of Paulding in the western Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The water level is controlled by a dam, and a steady flow over the falls is maintained for scenic reasons. The river cascades over a dark, wide rim of ancient volcanic rock, then curves and disappears into a concrete channel that helps minimize erosion. Finally, the water spreads out for dramatic effect at the falls where the river drops almost 50 feet over a wide series of stair-like boulders. Best viewed LARGE.
