Wandjina Deities
Indigenous Rock Art #1:
"Wandjina are mythical beings possessing both human and god-like qualities, and are regarded as the ancestors of people today*."
This rock art may be up to 4,000 years old.
After wandering through dry grass and scrubland in remote outback Australia, it is a rather intense, perhaps spiritual, experience to stumble across this artwork on a rocky outcrop in the middle of nowhere.
This image is an interpretation, rather than a "museum reproduction". In particular, I have intensified the colours of the Australian Aboriginal Flag: red, yellow and black. It is nevertheless an actual photograph of the images painted on the rock within touching distance before me.
