Canadian Armed Forces Leading Seaman Chris Pudsey

OFF THE COAST OF ISRAEL
Leading Seaman Chris Pudsey pulls Berthing Hawsers (rope to tie the ship to the dock) from the capstan (two round metal pillars that the rope ties around) to send down to Aft rope stores (rope stores at the rear of the ship) on to the Quarterdeck (rear of ship) in preparation for the departure of Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Fredericton from the port of Haifa, Israel on November 19, 2009.
HMCS Fredericton was deployed on a six-month mission to the Arabian Sea, Gulf of Aden and Horn of Africa to conduct counter-piracy and counter terror operations alongside our NATO and Coalition partners. As part of Canada’s ongoing naval contribution to NATO, HMCS Fredericton integrated into Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 (SNMG 1), conducting counter-piracy operations. While conducting operations against international terrorism, HMCS Fredericton integrated with Combined Task Force 150 (CTF 150). HMCS Fredericton’s participation in Operation Saiph (Sa-eef, meaning ‘sword’ in Arabic) represents Canada’s ongoing contribution and commitment to international peace and security and confirms that Canada’s Navy remains relevant, responsive and effective in the new security environment
