Clinging companions

As I walked near this tree, I saw a small flock of birds fly together to the trunk and begin a voracious attack on the trunk. I might've been more concerned for the health of the tree were they not so small. I don't remember seeing bushtits in town this late in the year; perhaps the correct phrase really is 'seeing', as I suspect it must be normal!
