Wedding of the Rose and the Lotus

Vachel Lindsay wrote the Wedding of the Rose and the Lotus in 1912 to recognize the importance of the Panama Canal. The Rose signifies the West and the Lotus the East. The original drawing was contained in a pamphlet that Lindsay published in connection with the poem. This Mural on a building on North 5th Street in Springfield was painted in 1997
