Day 10: The road to Piton de la Fournaise
Hiking one of the most active volcanoes in the world is one of those things people do on Réunion Island. It starts with driving the 'Route Forestière 5 du Volcan', a perfectly fine road until you reach the rim of the outer crater. Here the paved road ends and a dusty dirt track takes you to the rim of the next massive crater and the parking for hiking the Piton de la Fournaise. The track is full with massive cracks and potholes. Luckily our rental car was up to the job.
