Lonely Night

Eagle Lake and West Branch Railroad steam engine spends another night in the woods of Northern Maine Nov. 2012. The railroad operated from 1927-1933 to move wood from one watershed to another so the wood could be moved by water to Great Northern Paper Company in Millinocket. The isolation of the area made the movement of the equipment out of the woods not realistic so almost everything was left in place. The two steam engines were backed into the wooden engine house and haven't moved since. The Maine Forest Service unfortunately burned all man made wooden structures in the area in the 1960s leaving the engines out in the elements. Lighting by Shawn Duren
