Morgan - This Cairn, with plaques, commemorates the presence here of Captain Charles Napier Sturt in 1844: he was a founder of South Australia.

Commemorating Captain Charles Sturt’s voyage of exploration along the Murray River and back in 1830.

He later led an exploration team to Central Australia in1844.

 

Plaques on the monument read:-

Captain Charles Sturt passed this spot February 1830.

Erected 1930.

 

Captain Charles Sturt

Central Australian Exploring Expedition passed here 23–25 August 1844.

The principal discoveries were Barrier and Grey Ranges, Cooper and Eyre Creeks.

This tablet was unveiled 1944.

 

Commemorating Captain Charles Napier Sturt

who, as Second-in-Command, camped near here from Tuesday 10th to Saturday 21st December 1839 during the river Murray-Mt Bryan Expedition, which paved the way for development along the River Murray and for the River to be a viable trade and transport corridor.
