Port Adelaide Inner Harbour - Purpose built gantry for MV Troubridge a deep sea ferry. South Australia

The Roll-0n Roll-off MV Troubridge, a deep sea passenger and vehicle ferry, was built to replace SS Karatta, serving the Adelaide, Kingscote, Port Lincoln coastal run. Services began in 1961.

She was owned by the South Australian Steamship Company 1961–1977, then R W Miller and the South Australian Government.

 

The large purpose designed gantry on the wharf was constructed to allow cars and cargo carriers to drive straight on and off the ship.

 

“Troubridge” ceased operating in June 1987, when she was replaced by the “Island Seaway”. The same gantries were used by the new vessel proved unreliable and was retired in 1995.

 

After various subsequent owners she was scrapped in Turkey in 2004.
