A meeting was held here at the post office on Saturday night for the purpose of considering plans for the erection of a new hall.

A very successful dance was held at Currency Creek on Thursday last, in aid of Tooperang Hall Funds. Visitors were present from Finniss, Port Elliot, Strathalbyn, Victor Harbor, Willunga, and Mt Compass. Miss Betty Dodd, of Goolwa, was chosen as 'Belle of the Ball.' [Ref: Southern Argus 14-8-1947]

*Successful Gymnkhana at Tooperang
A highly successful gymkhana was conducted on the fine property of Mr A J R Woods, “Strathrannoch”, Tooperang, on Saturday afternoon last, when a big crowd of folk from the surrounding districts witnessed an excellent afternoon's sport. For a number of years now Mr Woods has kindly placed his property at the disposal of the local committee for the purpose of holding this annual fixture which has improved each time it has been put on.
The past five fixtures had been responsible for a credit of £515 in the bank towards the cost of the new hall.
Mr Young later informed us that the new Memorial Hall is to be built on a block kindly presented by Miss Heinicke, adjacent the Tooperang School. [Ref: Southern Argus 23-11-1950]

A monster barbecue and barn dance will be held at 'Kirkcaldy’, the property of Mr A Wilksch, near Mount Compass, tonight at 8 o'clock. There will be musical items, stalls, hoopla, drinks, good music (continuous), chops, sausages, etc.

*GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY
Mr and Mrs H E Green, of Tooperang, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in the Memorial Hall on 20th July by entertaining about 150 guests at a golden anniversary tea. The
bride and 'groom of fifty years were supported by their best man, Mr L Powell, and the bridesmaid, Mrs Love, both of Adelaide.
Mr and Mrs Green's family were present for the occasion.
Messrs K Heinecke, . Robinson and W Eardley spoke on behalf of the Tooperang community of the respect and high esteem in which Mr and Mrs Green were held.
Mr Green arrived in the district by horse and cart in 1900, when he settled down and engaged in market gardening for 40 years. He has been connected with the Agricultural Bureau, has been a member of the School Committee, and has taken an interest in other community affairs. Both he and Mrs Green have been active members of the Tooperang SDA Church. Pastor C D Judd spoke on behalf of the church and entertained with the screening of a film.
Presents given by members of the community occupied a large table in the hall, whilst Norman Green presented his mother and father with a fireside chair from the family, and Murray Stone presented one on behalf of members of the Seventh Day Adventist Church at Tooperang. *Gains Degree in Medicine
Christine Dawkins, 24, received her degree of medicine and surgery at Bonython Hall on Wednesday, 5th May.
Christine graduated from Tooperang Primary School to Mount Compass Area School and then finished her secondary education at Victor Harbour High School where she matriculated in 1968. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs W G Dawkins of Goolwa and wife of Mr Geoffrey Parks. At present she is an intern at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. [Ref: Victor Harbour Times 12-5-1976]
*A Compass Cup Dance will be held in the Tooperang Hall on the eve of the big day.

*Trading for tourists
Buskers and bargains are a selling combination for a new tourist attraction for the South Coast. Tooperang Flea Market will open its doors for the first time in October.
Local artists and craftspeople can display their wares.
About 30 stalls would be set up inside and outside the Tooperang Hall on Ashbourne Road. The first market will be held on October 15 from 9 am to 4 pm and thereafter on every second Saturday in the month. [Ref: Victor Harbour Times 29-6-1983]

Over 90 people attended a square dance at the Tooperang Hall on Saturday.
Caller Colin Huddleston guided the dancers through all the steps as one group and then into 8's.
The Tooperang Hall Committee has aimed in the last five years to encourage more community spirit in the area.
The dances have proved popular as well as helping funds to keep the Hall in repair.
The main project this year is a new stage.

Mount Compass Inter-Church Council is organising a family barbecue and concert at the Tooperang Hall on Saturday May 2.
Artists from across the Fleurieu will provide entertainment while local organisers will attend to catering arrangements. A spokesperson said acceptances by artists to perform indicated that the standard of performances would be equal to previous years and be of a diverse and varied nature.
Proceeds will go towards continuing the Christian Education program at Mount Compass Area School which has a high level of involvement by Christian professionals and volunteers. [Ref: Times 28-4-1992]
