Door of the Wirrabara Institute built 1912, Mid North South Australia
The foundation stone of this Institute at Wirrabara was laid by the Hon L O'Loughlin on Wednesday, March l3th.
In performing the ceremony the Hon Mr O'Loughlin expressed his great pleasure at being present, and congratulated the people on the possession of a building which would be in keeping with, the district. With its splendid soil and climate Wirrabara could grow everything of the best, and with its enterprising people, and the railway which made for closer settlement, it was bound to become an important town. It was twenty-eight years since the opening of the old hall.
The Hon J G Bice also spoke. He congratulated the contractor (Mr A S Haggar) on the progress made in the building. Only a few weeks ago there had been nothing but the foundations, and the hall was now half completed.
A public tea, arranged by the ladies' committee, was afterwards held in the old hall. The hall was crowded later in the evening, when a very successful concert took place. The proceedings terminated with a dance.
The building is of Wirrabara Forest stone, the dimensions of the main hall being 47 ft by 35 ft exclusive of stage. Under the stage is a basement giving two dressing rooms, while with the aid of movable partitions the space may be converted into a supper room. The front portion of the edifice will consist of the library and reading rooms, public room and subscribers' room. The front rooms being designed to carry another storey if desired. All the ceilings will be of Wunderlich, and the main hall will be well ventilated by eight box frame windows. The lighting service is to be carried out by an up-to-date installation of acetylene gas.

Opening of Wirrabara Institute
The opening of the Wirrabara Institute on Friday, August 23rd, was celebrated by a two day bazaar which proved a great success, takings totalling about £150.
The ceremony was performed by His Excellency the Governor (Sir Day Hort Bosanquet), who was received at the hall by a guard of honour, consisting of the girls of the Wirrabara and Forest schools.
The chairman of the council (Mr S Challinger), briefly traced the growth of the town from the time he had first gone through it 55 years ago, when Wirrabara had been in its natural state.
Financially, the whole effort to build the new hall has proved a great success, about £220 having been raised since the laying of the foundation stone some few months ago. This added to the amount in hand leaves a balance of £1000. The building, which cost nearly £2000 is a fine structure, which |reflects great credit on the architect (Mr J Firmin Jenkins).
