Embossed zinc ceiling, St Patrick's Roman Catholic Basilica, Palladium Revival style, Oamaru, New Zealand

Architect: Francis W Petre 1847–1918

Foundation stone: Laid on Trinity Sunday 1893, by Bishop Moran.

Builder: Mr J D Woods at a cost of £3,460 (exclusive of dome and sanctuary).

Basilica opened: 18th November 1894 by Bishop Grimes of Christchurch.

Portico and dome were added by 1903 and in 1918 the entire building was completed.

Some special features:

Construction of local Oamaru stone.

Ceiling panels of embossed zinc.

Pillars of Corinthian style.
