Caudron G.4 (MAIN PICTURE)

This is the main pic, please leave your faves and comments here :)

The Caudron G.4 was a French-produced reconnaissance two-seater and light bomber. As the war progressed and heavier bombers were developed, the G.4’s light bomb load and flimsy construction rendered it obsolete in the latter role. However, it served with great success as a reconnaissance aircraft.

Hey everyone! The Caudron is finally up. I hope the higher quality of the photo makes up for the wait. It should be noted that this is 100% purist (including the markings on the tail- they are made from Lego stickers), 100% my design, and uses almost entirely new techniques of my own creation.

On a more serious (and preachier) note, with WWI picking up in the community, I have a few things I’d like to say.

The popularity of building the First World War has gone way up recently and will continue to do so thanks to the release of Battlefield 1. However, just as it is important to remember that when we build WWII we are attempting to take on human violence and atrocity on a global scale with plastic bricks, the same goes for WWI. It is even more complicated when building the First World War because, for the most part, WWI in Europe was morally ambiguous. I urge all of you, at your discretion, to look up photographs of Henry Ralph Lumley, and understand the depravity and inhuman treatment of human beings by their superiors that took place during this time. Lumley was a British pilot who had all of his face, including his lips, gums, eyebrow ridge, nose, and eyes burned off as his plane crashed. A large portion of skin from his chest was used, in a highly experimental procedure, to cover his horrific injuries. His body rejected the graft, and he died shortly afterwards. I hope that as this theme gains popularity everyone will remember that, in an even stranger way than the Second World War, WWI is one of the darkest periods in human history and it should be treated with the same respect that I know the majority of you have for the horrors of WWII.

I, of course, welcome the new WWI builds we will see, but please bear in mind that though these horrible events happened a hundred years ago, they happened to real men and should not be trivialized through a video game.

Many thanks to Bryan and Brailey for the minifig heads.

Thanks for reading!
