Raspberry Clearwing (Pennisetia hylaeformis).

Since this species was first detected in the UK in 2007 their numbers have grown quite quickly and already this year sightings along the south coast have been incredible.

Having caught a few at a private garden in Seaford, where I also saw them last year around a Raspberry bush, I decided to put the pheromone out in my own garden.

With no Raspberry growing locally as far as I know I was not expecting to see any, so it was with some amazement when a short while after putting the lure out I saw that I had caught some.

There is thought that this species could be substituting Bramble for the Raspberry, which could explain why they are spreading at such a fast rate.
