Hôtel de ville de Villeurbanne, Lyon

The city hall of Villeurbanne, designed by Robert Giroud (1890-1943), disciple of Tony Garnier, in 1930 and opened in 1934. The building as well as the surrounding ensemble represents ability of municipality to resist economic crisis and intentions for annexation from the Greater Lyon authorities. Likeness of city hall building to power plant or any other industrial building could be explained by industrial economic base of the town.
