Pioneer BR Diesels
1Co-Co1 diesel locomotives nos 10201 & 10203 stand at Derby Works on 18th April 1964. The locos (plus 10202) were designed by Bulleid for the Southern Railway. 10201 (1750hp) was built at Ashford, however did not appear until 1950, after nationalisation. 10203 (2000hp) was outshopped from Brighton Works in 1954. Initially working/trialled on the Southern Region, they transferred to the Midland Region based at Camden/Willesden from 1955. All were withdrawn in December 1963 and cut up at Cashmores (Great Bridge).
Also in the picture is ex LMS 2-6-4T no. 42500. built at Derby in 1934. Withdrawn in 1962 after service on the Southend line, the loco is part of the National Collection, having been exhibited at York NRM, Bressingham and at Barrow Hill.
