Pyramid of Austerlitz
The Pyramid of Austerlitz is a 36 meter high pyramid of earth, built in 1804 on one of the highest points of the Utrecht ridge. Atop the pyramid is a stone obelisk from 1894. The pyramid was built by (bored) French soldiers under General Marmont, who was inspired by the Pyramid of Giza (Egypt). The original name was ‘Mont Marmont’. 1806 the pyramid was renamed in Pyramid of Austerlitz (after Napoleon's win of the battle of Austerlitz - now Czech Republic) - Austerlitz - The Netherlands
