The poor weather continued for the southbound leg of The Cumbrian Mountain Express on the 15 July last. You could not see 45690 Leander and her train traversing Mallerstang, so close in and very wet feet where the order of the day I am afraid. The sanders are on and the Jubes exhaust mixes with the low cloud and drizzle as she passes under the normally crowded road bridge and on towards the summit.
Thankfully a couple pints of cumbrian bitter and a lovely meal awaited Gill and I back at "The Royal" in Kirkby Lonsdale once we had dried out.
