Arkley SS based on a 1966 Spridget donor vehicle.
Cheffins vintage and classic auction, Sutton -
"Chassis No. HAN854049 A fine Austin Healey Sprite fitted with the Arkley SS body kit and powered by a much modified engine. The Arkley was the brainchild of John Britten of Arkley, Hert's and was launched in 1973 as a kit or as a turn key car to clients requirements, they were successfully raced in the late 1970s. Purchased in 1985 as a project, Mini racing commitments turned the Arkley into a 14 year project but nonetheless extensive restoration of the original Sprite monocoque was carried out. Complimenting this work was a full overhaul and upgrade of the disc braking system along with the suspension, wishbones, anti-roll bar etc. The engine has been fitted with Hillman Imp pistons (1220cc), a flowed 1275GT cylinder head, fast road cam and a mighty Shorrock supercharger giving an 86bhp output and a 150bhp/ton power to weight ratio. 19,000 miles have been covered in the last sixteen years and the owner states that the Sprite has 'snappy' performance and it achieves the legal limit in a hurry. Sitting on Cobra alloy wheels shod with sticky Yokahama tyres the Sprite is offered for sale with current MOT, V5C documents, photographic records of the rebuild, written and published diary of the same and copious ring binders of bills, receipts and information. Summer fun awaits. Estimate £3,000 - £4,000."
Sold for £4500.
