532 CVE (2)

1964 AEC Matador Mk.2 timber tractor in the livery of J V Waugh of Isleham.

Supplied new to Timber & General Haulage of East Harling and fitted with a Unipower winch. Cheffins vintage auction, Sutton -

"The AEC Matador's origins date back to before the Second World War and it is testament to its longevity as a utility vehicle that in 1960 a Mk.2 version was produced with a production run of just 44 up until 1965. The reason for this short production run is that it coincided with the release from the military of numerous Matador Mk.1's through the Government surplus sales and auctions. 26 of the Mk.2's were exported to South Africa with others destined to the Middle East, Africa and Australia. Several stayed in the UK although it is believed that this example is one of just two surviving examples in preservation. The present owner has used the vehicle as part of his forestry business up until recently. It was purchased by him in 1982 from D A Garnham & Son Ltd of Diss, Norfolk. This example is described in very good condition and is offered for sale with V5C. It is taxed until July 2009 and has an Engineering certificate until May 2009. A number of spares including trnasfer gearbox, 2 wheels and tyres, steel cables and Army ground anchor kit etc are offered for sale with the vehicle. It featured in Classic & Vintage Commercials in July 2002 pp50-53."
