Autumn at Hooker Falls

After a bit of a hiatus from posting new images, I am finally back in the office to review this years' fall travel inventory of photographs.

To start off this #waterfallwednesday I thought I would first share this favorite from last year that I never got to post at the time: Autumn at Hooker Falls.

This is my favorite waterfall to photograph in the DuPont State Forest in North Carolina - The Land of Waterfalls.

Its ease of access makes it a very popular and highly photographed waterfall indeed, but despite its seemingly simple framing along the Little River, it provides an array of interesting compositions.

From this particular outing I liked this shot the best; the morning light had begun to peak through the tree canopy, allowing a soft glow to illuminate some of the foliage along the top of the falls that still carried a touch of autumn colors.

The cold November morning and recent rains also provided a decent water flow, creating a nice little bundle of mist at the base of the falls.

Moreover, the autumn leaves remaining at the very base of the rocky outcropping of the waterfall provided a few distinct highlights for the eye which I really liked.

I hope you enjoy this image as well, and stay tuned for many more scenes I will be sharing from this year's autumn adventures in the Blue Ridge and Great Smoky Mountains.

Until then, take care y'all and thank you for stopping by to look!
