Definition of Acceleration
Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity. Typically in our everyday lives we assume it's synonymous with "speeding up." But anything that results in a velocity change causes an acceleration. This includes slowing down and turning, because any change in speed or direction is a change in velocity. I like to invent the "Dr. Pepper test." If you're not willing to leave a full 44oz soda on your dashboard while performing some driving maneuver, it involves an acceleration.
