Understanding Potential and Kinetic Energy (1/2)

This worksheet attempts to do four things:

1.) There are multiple forces on each object doing work. Since the person's pull and the other force are in opposite directions, the work done by the pull and that done by the person have opposite signs

2.) If the object isn't moved a distance, it doesn't matter that there's a force, the equation W=Fd means that the work will be zero.

3.) If a force does negative work, in many cases, the work done against it (namely the work done by your push or pull) is stored as potential energy. We call these forces conservative forces.

4.) Not all forces are conservative. Friction does not store the work you do against it, it dissipates it (as heat.)
