Mapping a Magnetic Field (Single Magnet-3D)
The magnetic field you saw on the previous map is just the part of the field in the plane of the paper. It actually extends in 360 degrees around the magnet in space. This box (which is leaking) is full of mineral oil with iron filings suspended around a magnet. The iron filings act as tiny compass needles and show the true 3D shape of the field.
