F-111 Swap - South Australian Aviation Museum

RF-111C A8-134 & F-111C A8-132.

When the F-111's were withdrawn from service in 2010, a number were preserved with several sent to aircraft museums around Australia on long-term loans. Rumour was the Royal Australian Air Force offered a F-111 to the Australian War Memorial who declined, as the F-111 had not been used operationally in a conflict zone. This was not entirely correct, however. One of the F-111's was RF-111C A8-134, which ended up at the South Australian Aviation Museum at Port Adelaide. This was a reconnaissance version of the F-111. The interesting part: A8-134 WAS used operationally in a conflict zone, when it conducted recon flights over East Timor in 1999. So, the decision was made for A8-134 to be transferred to the Australian War Memorial; SAAM was to receive ex-ARDU F-111C A8-132 as a replacement.

On 18 May 2019, A8-134 was removed from the main hanger at the museum; A8-132 was moved in.
