Emergency

With just a couple of hours left in the flight, Etihad Boeing 777 A6-ETR, operating EY450 from Abu Dhabi to Sydney, experienced a fire in the hold. The flight crew initially smelt smoke, then received a fire alarm. An emergency was declared and the aircraft diverted to Adelaide, South Australia.

After a safe landing, the aircraft halted on taxiway 'Foxtrot Six'. As there were no visible signs of a fire, the passengers and crew disembarked the aircraft via mobile stairs. The passengers and crew were then transported to the terminal by bus.

As Etihad do not operate out of Adelaide, a number of companies had to work together to deal with the situation.
