Galaxies around NGC4650 in Centaurus - Jun 2025

NGC 4650A (galaxy with the blue jet) is a lenticular galaxy of the rare polar-ring type, with a apparent visual magnitude of 13.3 and located in the southern constellation of Centaurus. It lies in a chain of five galaxies in the Centaurus Cluster.

 

This galaxy is located at an estimated distance of 130 million light-years.

It should not be confused with the nearby spiral galaxy NGC 4650.

 

Imaged using a 8" SCT at f6.3, 1280mm focal length, with a QHY268M camera.

 

The total exposure time of this image through all of the LRGB, H-Alpha & OIII filters was 26 hours and 14 minutes.

 

Software used to capture and stack this image was APT 4.60, PHD 2.6.13dev7, DSS 5.1.10, Siril 1.4.0beta2, Cosmic Clarity and Photoshop.
