St. Joseph Lighthouse Rear Tower
In 1898, an inner light (rear range light) consisting of a lens lantern suspended form a tall metal mast was established at the inner end of the north pier, thus creating a range light system useful to vessels approaching the harbor entrance. These range lights remained in service until 1907 when they were replaced with the present towers.
