The church of Aghia Sofia in Monemvassia, Ano Polis.
Οκταγωνικός τρουλαίος ναός με προκτίσματα στη νότια πλευρά. Κτίστηκε το 12ο αιώνα (1149-1150).
Ο γλυπτός του διάκοσμος χρονολογείται το 12ο αιώνα και οι τοιχογραφίες του ανάγονται στα τέλη του 12ου - αρχές του 13ου αιώνα. Η γραπτή και προφορική παράδοση συνδέει την εκκλησία με τον αυτοκράτορα Ανδρόνικο Β’ Παλαιολόγο (1282-1328). Ο ναός, σύμφωνα με τις ιστορικές πηγές, ήταν αφιερωμένος στην Παναγία Οδηγήτρια.
Μετά την επανάσταση του 1821 αφιερώθηκε στην Σοφία του Θεού, επειδή θεωρήθηκε πιστό αντίγραφο της Αγίας Σοφιάς στην Κωνσταντινούπολη.
Octagonal domed church with surrounding buildings on the south side. Built in the 12th century (1149-1150).
The sculptural decoration dating back to the 12th century and frescoes dating back to the late 12th - early 13th century. The written and oral tradition connects the church with the Emperor Andronicus II Palaeologus (1282-1328). The church, according to historical sources, was dedicated to the Virgin Hodegetria.
After the revolution of 1821 was dedicated to the Wisdom of God, because it was a replica of St. Sophia in Constantinople.
