Elco Motoryacht SMILES
This poor old picture, shows a 1925 56.5' Elco Flat Top (As some called them.) modified from her original design sometime back in the 1960's moving her helm to a newly constructed wheelhouse. She was a party boat, always underway with a group of friends of Capt. Eddie Carmines. Her days ended after Capt. Eddie died in 1989. The SMILES lasted maybe another eight to ten years with minimal maintenance performed, she was beyond saving at that point and was dismantled in the late 1990's at Colonial Yacht Harbor on the Chickahominy R. in Virginia. Parts of her were salvaged by other Elco yacht owners for reuse on their Elco yachts. She is seen here on the James R. in Virginia passing through the Idle Fleet in the summer of 1984. I have always admired the way those old Elco's cut through the water.
