PEQUEST

This photo was taken by the famous photographer Morris Rosenfeld in 1919 taken in the waters around New York/Long Island/New Jersey, exact location unknown. It is of the newly named c) PEQUEST, a) SEE W. SEE, b) USS SEE W. SEE SP-740 purchased by S. Kent Morris of Belvidere, NJ after WWI on 31 Jan. 1919. He renamed her the PEQUEST on 4 June 1919. She became part of the New York Yacht Club under his ownership. The PEQUEST was built by Willard F. Downs at his yard in Bay Shore, NY in 1915 as the a) SEE W. SEE and measured 65' 5" LOA. After purchasing the USS SEE W. SEE, Morris took her to Ruddock Yacht Works in New York where she was refurbished back into a motoryacht, believed to be her original build design. (Reference Motor Boat magazine August 10 1919, page 125) To date, other than two WWI USN photo's, this and one other from the 1920 December issue of the Rudder Magazine are the only photo's known of her in this design. No photo's have been found prior to 1917. She will become the d) ROSALIE IV on 23 Nov 1927 and under take a major rebuilding in 1928 transforming her from a Bridge Deck Cruiser design to a Cruising Houseboat design of the time. As of this posting she is 100 years old and is known as the h) MAR-SUE pictured on this site. Photo courtesy of the Mystic Seaport Museum, Rosenfeld Collection.
