Avengers: Endgame Review (minor spoilers)
I had hoped the Thanos car or copter would make an appearance. But anyways, don’t be a dick spoiling around.
This is really the end of a saga. The culmination of 22 films, and a journey of wonderful spectacles. Known collectively as the Infinity Saga. It all started with Iron Man, more than a decade and a year ago....it took 11 years to build a mega sized film like Endgame.
The conclusion of last year’s Infinity War continues to show, and so does its aftermath. Is it like the two parter when they originally announced? Perhaps, yes, in a way it’s like a grand finale that LOTR did or the Deathly Hallows.
In this film, repercussions of Thanos’ snap of half of the population has tolls on the heroes—-the Avengers, as they try to hunt him down. But what’s done is done. Even if they actually did found him, it changes nothing. 50% still remain. We jump forward to five years in the future, 2023 respectively. Heroes are going their own lives, but it’s not like everyone would move on, even if they tried, says Captain America. And they try to take a last stand, one last shot to get the Avengers and their remaining allies together to save the day once again.
We certainly aren’t not treated with plot points along the way, given that this is such a giant sized finale, we revisited several events before Infinity War happened. The Stones become MacGuffins once again. It’s the team’s duty to reverse the effects? Do they manage to do it? I’m not going to tell, even if I knew some stuff that happened before I saw the movie, and now after.
So yes, this is just one of the best movies of the year. So much excitement, fun, yet a balance of humour and darkness. The music is wonderful, and so is the cinematography and action. Along with everyone’s chemistry and acting, the story reaches its full potential and so are some of their arcs because it’s an end. With the underlying themes and arcs of family, love, friendship, honour, brotherhood...it’s everything.
I’ll thank Marvel Comics, the MCU, Feige, the Russo bros, the cast, crew and everyone else who brought us to a journey of emotions and thrills. A love letter to a saga of a shared universe that brought so much success that is simply glorious for us fans and viewers.
And thank you, Stan Lee. We will miss you forever.
P.S: There’s probably a ton of Easter eggs in the movie, if you’re an eagle eye or die hard spotting fan, you’ll likely catch em’ all. And still some future set ups, some unanswered questions....the possibilities are endless.
