Gorse Mythology

Electro-diesel 73207 seen at the rear of a legendary lineup of BR-era locomotives, led by D6515 (33012) with 50026 and 50031 (masquerading as 001) sandwiched in the mighty mashup.

The venerable machines, running as 0Z33 Eastleigh Works to Swanage, have just traversed the picturesque and prickly Dorset heathland between Creech Heath and Hartland Moor on the run up to Furzebrook sidings. The reason for the classic cavalcade was the attendance by the fab foursome in the Swanage Railway's 2014 Diesel Gala event.

This area on the beautiful Isle of Purbeck is home to a thriving Gorse coverage, the thorny evergreen shrub instantly recognisable by it's yellow flowers is also known as Furze (or Whin) and it's proliferation in this area may in part explain the origin of the name of nearby village of Furzebrook.
