KUKA IR761/125

Industrial robot KUKA IR761/125 (1992) at the Mazda Classic - Automobil Museum Frey in Augsburg, Germany.

During the 1970s, companies from the US and Europe (and later increasingly Japan) began developing robots for use in industrial production, particularly in the automotive industry. While quickly industrial robots saw use in hazardous applications such as spray painting car bodies, their advent during the economic recession of the 1970s gave new rise to the decade old fear of mass unemployment due to technological advancements.

Augsburg-based KUKA had already been a manufacturer for welding equipment and presented its first industrial robot in 1973.
