The vessel, also referred to as "Hydra", is operated by Köln Fire Service one of three large fireboats built for the NRW state government in the 1960s. Over the years, these boats have recieved some upgrades, including lengthening the hull by 5 metres, replacing the engines and improving the pumping system.
