Knife Angel

Created and displayed at the British Ironworks Centre near Oswestry.

Created as a National Monument against knife crime.

This 26ft high sculpture is made using over 100,000 knives all collected throughout the UK as part of a knife amnesty in conjunction with all 43 constabularies, the Home Office and Anti Violence Groups. Apparently 30% of all the knives collected were delivered in bio-hazard packaging labelled "high risk of infection" usually meaning they still had blood on them.

The knives were individually cleaned and blunted and the families of the victims of knife crime were invited to engrave a message on one of the knives.

It is a beautiful and emotional statue and the campaign is to erect it on the 4th plinth at Trafalgar square.
