How's Flickr Doing ? - Derborence - Switzerland

Hello Flickr ! Here is a panoramic version of a picture I took recently. The first ones were harshly processed in order to be posted on Instagram (which is not very panorama friendly). However, I had clearly in mind to take much more time to make big panoramas with a lot of shots (bracketing for the sky and the earth).

So because it took me some time to create something only for Flickr, I thought that it could be a good occasion to post a little reflexion wandering in my mind these past few months : how's Flickr doing ?

I have to confess, I created an Instagram account the day I realized Sean Archer wasn't posting picture on Flickr anymore. It's quite easy to understand : he is one of the most followed guy on 500px (if not the most) : it probably became pointless for him to post on Flickr where he has a less significant fanbase. Sean Archer is probably the archetype of the Internet-photographer and the fact that he was leaving the boat was a kind of shock : Flickr was not the place where the game was played anymore.

For time to time, I googled the question “Is flickr dead ?” and found a lot of different opinions. Lot of people where already saying in 2011 that Flickr became the new MySpace. Other people pointed out that Flickr remain the best patform in terms of service (for free), storage capacity, high quality of pictures and so on. I totally agree. But at the same time, I think these technical assets of Flickr are not what should be put in question. Flickr is technically a very good (and maybe the best) photography platform.

The real question is : do creative/enthusiast/interesting photographers still use it ? Is there enough activity on this website to allow it to be what we (I) want it to be : a source of inspiration/emulation/improvement and so on … I also want it to be a source of Challenge : I would take less picture if I was just keeping them for myself.

I realized that I have less and less view/favs when I post something. Not that I really care. Maybe I am just getting worse (it's possible). However, it create a strange impression of … inactivity, disinvestment and unmotivation. The real reason, I guess, is that most of my followers are ghost account now : they left the boat too.

So I was wondering how you live this situation ? Do you feel the same ? Is it just because I am not invested enough ? Do I have missed something ? Or does Flickr really became an after-party and I am among the guests that stay too long ? Does the party moved in the kitchen when I was asleep ? Is the party definitely taking place in the house across the street ?

Apparently you stayed with me (or do you just arrived ?), so I am sincerely curious to have your opinion !
