Observing Habitat Functions brought me to this slightly out-of-the-ordinary example in class today. Here we see one (of many) spiders I found in the area that have this coloring. It may not have been immediately visible in the picture, and that is exactly what this is showing. While we aren't looking at thriving ecology in terms of the branch here, we see that even as plants die they become habitat for many creatures. The dead brown color is used by the spider to blend in and catch prey; it's web was rooted to this branch and allowed the spider to hide out of view to it's potential prey.
