Buttermere Sentinel’s.
Having taken in sunrise at Otterbield Bay we made our way to Buttermere. I hadn't been here for about a year and my heart sank when Gatesgarth and the field opposite were both full of campervans. A little further on and the gate to the shoreline to take this shot was open and the adjacent field had 100's of vans, tents and motorhomes in it.
It was the week of the annual Buttermere Bash with music, food and all things paragliding related. Not ones to miss an opportunity we slowly took the track down to the shoreline.
A bleary eyed man appeared from a tent and marched over to us. "You're parked on the landing strip, you gonna be long mate? These guys are animals and will be up flying shortly."
About an hour max was my reply.
"Do me a favour, I'm security, just swing round next to my tent. You'll be good to go all day if you wish. I wont tell," he said with a huge grin and a wink.
His no nonsense, laid back attitude set us up for a wonderful hour of shooting and set the tone for a super morning around Buttermere, Crummock Water and Loweswater.
We took our shots, thanked him as he tucked into his breakfast and watched as several motorised paragliders took off.
The less said about the rest of the day the better. It was impossibly busy and highly frustrating at times but he was great!
