Not Very Poplar.

This was originally called ‘Pine of the Times,’ on account of my not so intimate knowledge of trees. Reliably informed, by a very good source ( a huge sign saying Poplars outside it,) that these are actually Poplars, not Pines.

I've driven/rode past this plantation hundreds of times and it looked inaccessible from the main road.

Early morning exercise found me nearby and I decided to explore the back lanes around it. I found a suitable place to lock the bike up and crossed a small field to discover the most uneven ground I think I've ever walked on.

Must admit my thoughts did turn to how easy it would be to twist an ankle here so I was extra careful.

I don't know what I was expecting but I didn't think there would be a decent size pond in the middle of it. I took a few photos with the backdrop of the pines (poplars) and they looked great on the back of the camera, but not so great after I'd got them on the computer.

I thought it'd be easy to find a decent composition but other than the obvious one ( this one ), I struggled. The closeness of the trees which I thought would make the shot easy, actually made it way tougher.

I made my way around the pond and noticed a pair of Canada Geese nesting and sitting at the far end of the pond so left them in peace and made a mental note to come back and try again in a few months.

I'm truly amazed at what I'm finding on the doorstep or within a few miles of home.
