Christmas at SPUD
As I upload this on 12/09/2022, I remember this day 5 years ago.
It was a historic moment, as two unusual visitors occupied St Paul Union Depot's platform.
It was a better time for the commuter, in fact, this was the first public trip to SPUD from Big Lake, a short-lived annual tradition called "Northstar's Holiday Special". When the pandemic hit, Northstar suffered.
Opposite the commuter is the fan-favorite "North Pole Express" led by Milwaukee Road 261. The NPE was in its 4th year (started in 2014) and has continued to this day.
Prior to Northstar and the 261 departing for their respective destinations, a photo shoot was organized by Steve Glischinski & Bob Ball. Several shots were taken of Northstar's 6-car train at the depot.
The last shot of the night was a side-by-side of the two trains on the platform. This will probably forever be a favorite memory of mine as a rail fan, still learning the ins and outs of night shoots.
