Brown Hare
Brown Hare / lepus europaeus. Lincolnshire. 11/04/22.
An image made before all hell broke loose!
The Brown Hare doe in the centre had been hunkered down on the disused airfield, but nevertheless had attracted the attentions of two bucks. Here, they're shown either side of her feeding. Both could detect by her scent, that she would be ready to mate soon, so were biding their time.
Moments later, the buck on the left made the mistake of forcing himself onto the doe, which she didn't like one bit. Rearing up she boxed him with her front paws, then chased both of them further away. Exciting to watch at close hand, concealed in a bag hide ... but sadly, over in a flash.
