Wren

Wren / troglodytes troglodytes. Nottingham Canal, Cossall, Nottinghamshire. 30/03/21.

'THE VOICE.'

I am really looking forward to the sound of bird songs again and the time for that is drawing closer. So far this year I've heard the quiet sub-songs of Blackbirds and a Mistle Thrush. Although Robins sing throughout winter, I'm hearing them more often now, and louder. Yesterday I added a Nuthatch to my 2022 song list.

This image was made last Spring when the male Wren did everything in his power to advertise his presence. He repeatedly covered a section of disused canal with fluttery flights and often perched on the fluffy, exploded Reed Mace heads.

Shown here in typical singing pose, he was belting out his loud song. Over the few days I observed him I didn't notice any females getting drawn in. I don't doubt though, that his best efforts went unrewarded for long!
